Persecution Results in 22,000 Believers

Brother Sung in China was baptizing new converts when the local authorities arrested and put him in prison.  "Over the following years, often I questioned, ‘Why God allowed this to happen to me?’" Brother Sung recalls today.

"They hated me because I was helping the believers.  Once a month for 30 minutes, I could go out to breathe fresh air from my tiny dark prison cell.　 There was a little window in my cell but I never saw the sunshine.  Winter months were terrible. I used to freeze and could hardly sleep at night.  If I did anything wrong in the eyes of the prison guard, they would throw icy water on me.  I almost froze to death.  I lost much weight because of heavy prison work and developed sickness in my lungs. Every day for two hours they made me stand still in the corner of my cell. If I moved an inch, the prison guards would start beating me with their clubs. Prison food was watery. Not even pigs would eat it.  Once a month we had little meat. But before I could get a piece of it other fifty inmates would fight for them. I was sentenced to thirteen years in prison. I didn’t posses a Bible so I would pray countless hours. The Holy Spirit recalled to my mind how early Christians were eaten alive by lions because of their faith in Jesus. That gave me courage and faith to carry on."

"We have several churches and over 22,000 believers," says Brother Sung.　 Our co-workers led countless number of souls to receive Christ this year. In spite of severe persecution, lack of transportation and personal comforts they work faithfully to gather in the harvest of souls. So far, approximately 14,000 believers received training out of 31 Training Centers now operating in China."
