Through Christ’s death on the cross, those who turn to Him are delivered from both the penalty and the power of sin.
— 1 Peter 2:24-25

As we approach Easter, I keep thinking about the symbolism of the cross. It is a focal point of the Christian faith and manifests God’s character and great love towards every single human being. In order to grow in godliness, it is essential to understand the significance of the cross.

The cross is our identity. Through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, we are forgiven of our sins and will rise again someday.

Galatians 3:13 says, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law… cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.”

Friends, in 2015 more than 1,500 crosses were taken down or destroyed in China. Do you know why there is such angst and hostility towards Christians and the cross? Because there is power in it!

Jesus paid the price for us all and each year we get to celebrate His incredible gift of love on Good Friday and Easter. Jesus’ death and resurrection guaranteed us eternal life in heaven and a life of abundance here on earth. We ought to celebrate the victory of the cross every single day.

Our daily life should be motivated by His power and authority in us. We are victorious in Jesus and are called to make His Name known to everyone. So this Easter I encourage you to witness to others and share the free gift of salvation. People are looking for the love of a Savior. The gift of eternal life is free for all.

Throughout the ages, the Good News has been proclaimed, and people all over the world have received salvation. Today, it is our turn to share that same message of hope, love, forgiveness, and everlasting life. No other religion has a leader who overcame death. How then can we keep silent about the most important event that has ever taken place?

This month you will celebrate Easter by gathering with fellow believers, singing joyously of Christ’s resurrection, and hearing the story of the empty tomb. But don’t let the familiarity and holiday customs steal your wonder and appreciation. As we rejoice in Jesus’ life and victory over death, let us look forward to that day when He returns and resurrects all those who trust in Him. Keep living in the newness of life that He gave us through His resurrection power.

May the peace of God rest with you and your family! Happy Easter!

A Prayer for Today
Father God, at times there is controversy about how, when, and what to call the remembrance of the greatest day in history - the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead and brought the gift of your forgiveness and eternal life to all who would like to receive it. Lord, you have given us victory over sin and death, and the promise of never leaving us or forsaking us. Help us to be the body of Christ, the church, united in awe of how you saved our unworthy souls ... your body and your blood as a sacrifice for us. Help us to bring this message to all who will listen. Help us to love like you love. Thank you! Amen.
